SANTA FE- No more ink stained fingers. The New Mexico Department of Public Safety (NMDPS) is pleased to announce that it has begun final implementation of its LiveScan fingerprinting service solution for all applicant background checks in New Mexico. This applicant background check solution will be totally electronic and will provide New Mexico residents the means to complete their required federal and state background checks quickly, conveniently and at the lowest possible cost.
Applicants and workers within the industries of healthcare, daycare, foster care, as well as adoptive parents and school employees, are just a few categories of individuals who are required by law to have state and federal criminal history background checks. NMDPS has made the process of completing a background check easier by contracting with 3M Cogent to establish the New Mexico Applicant Processing Service (NMAPS). The main goals of NMAPS are to improve public availability of fingerprint services, shorten background check response times, increase applicant convenience and control the rising costs of protecting New Mexico residents.
Applicants that require fingerprint based background checks will first need to be registered with 3M Cogent. The registration process can be completed electronically by their employer if the background check is mandated by the New Mexico Department of Health, or at the 3M Cogent web page for all other New Mexico applicants.
