State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in McKinley County

Prewitt, NM – Around 1:00 p.m. yesterday, New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on Interstate 40 at mile marker 62 near Prewitt, NM.

The initial investigation indicated a semi-tractor trailer on Interstate 40 was merging onto the eastbound roadway from the shoulder. A passenger car also traveling eastbound struck the rear of the semi. The front seat passenger, identified as Helen Larry (52) of Pillow Crest, NM, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene. Three other subjects in the passenger car were transported by EMS for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was uninjured.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in this crash. This crash remains under investigation.
