Program for Military Veterans Begins Monday

State of New Mexico
Department of Public Safety

SANTA FE- Eighteen members of our Armed Forces will begin their Transition with Honor program at the Department of Public Safety Law Enforcement Academy on Monday, January 27th. Their goal is to complete the one week program and pass the Law Enforcement Officer Certification Exam so they may become certified law enforcement officers in New Mexico.

The class is made up of military personnel from Kirtland and Cannon Air Force Bases, Army and Air National Guard and Naval Reserves.

The Transition with Honors program was established by the Department of Public Safety Cabinet Secretary Gorden Eden and is designed to streamline the training process for veterans who have been through military police training. Instead of having to take a sixteen week police officer training curriculum, the veteran who qualifies, can now take a one week refresher course at no cost to them.

The Department of Public Safety Law Enforcement Academy continues to offer the highest law enforcement training. If you are a veteran and would like more information regarding the Transition with Honor program contact Director Jack Jones at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy at 505-827-9290.
