ALBQUERQUE – New Mexico State Police Chief, Robert Shilling, and members of the New Mexico State Police will hold a press conference on Tuesday, April 9, at 10:30 a.m., to thank the Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation and Lovelace Medical Center for donating $15,000 to purchase batteries and pads for 50 automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Through this donation, the State Police matched these funds and were able to redeploy 100 AEDs in units throughout New Mexico.
The press conference will take place at Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center, 504 Elm St. N.E. in Albuquerque.
There will be a demonstration of an AED by State Police. Additionally, there will be a check presentation by the Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation and Lovelace Medical Center to the State Police.
The AED units are about the size of a laptop computer and can deliver an electrical shock through the use of the defibrillator to the victim of a heart attack. State Police will roll out these units first to its officers in rural areas, where waiting time for EMTs to arrive becomes a critical factor in whether a heart attack victim lives or dies. AED’s increase the chances of saving a life if and when a cardiac related emergency occurs.
