Torrance County– On Friday, April 05, 2013 at 5:43 p.m., David Scott Maclennan (53) of Michigan contacted his daughter and advised her he was lost in the Manzano Mountains around the Torreon/Tajique NM area.
Albuquerque State Police was contacted and given the information regarding Maclennan. State Police was also advised that Maclennan was not appropriately dressed for the chilly Manzano Mountains evening.
At 9:20 p.m. on the above date, with the oversight of the State Police; a New Mexico Search and Rescue Team was activated. SAR is made up of volunteers who are trained and experienced in locating lost subjects in the rugged New Mexico terrain. Crews mobilized at the base of the Mountain and began the search.
On Saturday, April 6, 2013, State Police called in the support of its helicopter (ABLE 6) to assist in the search. At 10:11 a.m., ABLE 6 located Maclennan and relayed his location to SAR ground crews. At 1:27 p.m., SAR ground crews reached Maclennan and safely brought him down the mountain.
Maclennan, who was not complaining of injury was treated by EMS on scene and released to head back to Albuquerque NM.
This rescue would not have been possible if it weren’t for all the team players working together. Credit is given to NM SAR volunteers, State Police officers on scene, and the crew of ABLE 6.
